Weezer – Weezer (Red Album)

May 28, 2008

Weezer. If you haven’t heard of them, there’s something wrong with you. Catchy pop hooks. Crunchy guitar.

The band’s third self-titled release, dubbed the Red Album, just leaked. Thankfully this album sounds nothing like their previous effort, Make Believe. Definitely give this album a listen.

Inept – So Much Between Us

May 20, 2008

Inept is a high energy rock band from Chicago Illinois. With passion, charisma, and dedication, Inept has made a name in the Midwest music scene. They bring an explosive live show to each stage that they perform on. Inept has played on the 2004 and 2005 Warped Tour, the 2006 Taste of Chaos tour, Dirtfest 2006, and The Bamboozle Left in 2006.

These guys have played Minneapolis a couple times, at the Quest (which has since burned down) and the Toybox (which has since gone out of business). They have tons of stage presence, and immense energy. Their songs feature catchy choruses, with soaring vocal melodies, TBS-like call and answer harmonies, punchy drum beats, and crunchy guitar riffs. Inept is a band who is anything but what their name describes. Check it out.

Campus – We Are The Silence

May 20, 2008

Sorry about the low-quality album art :(
The music makes up for it though.

Campus is a little-known hardcore band from Belgium, with the potential to make it big. Their sound is a huge wall of crushing guitar, frequently featuring melodic lead guitar lines. They are well rehearsed at the art of the breakdown; some feature a chorus of yells, and many featuring dissonant guitar work. This band was a surprise hit for me. If you like hard-hitting guitar, give it a listen.

The Wedding Discography

May 14, 2008

The Wedding’s myspace page lists their genre description as:

“Rock / Rock / Rock”

Thats about all you need to know, but I’ll tell you more, because I love these guys. The Wedding is from Fayetteville, Arkansas, a little town in the middle of nowhere. They’ve gone through some line-up changes, but have always made sure that all their members are good Jesus-loving dudes, and that their music rocks hard with a little influence from the dirty south.

Oh yeah, and Polarity features a brass section, strings, piano, and a BAGPIPE!

The Wedding. GET ROWDY!

Three Years Hiding – We Lost Ourselves & Found Our Way To This

April 8, 2008

Pop-rock brilliance…Combinging the atmospheric indie sound of Minus The Bear, the layered vocal assault of Taking Back Sunday and melody driven Jimmy Eat World style choruses, TYH are a delight…There are so many hooks that make them stand-alone…Sometimes cute, sometimes arrogant and often brilliant this debut is one of the strongest of its genre in a long long time.

Big Cheese Magazine

Three Years Hiding is a rock/pop punk band from the UK. Their album just came out, and it’s chock full of melodic hooks. There’s even a piano ballad half way through. I love the singer’s accent. A good summer album.
